Hotel Du Louvre Hotel Paris: a great location, friendly service and good place to stay
ADDENDUM….. ADDED IN APRIL 2008
that is the 2nd duration I stayed at the Hotel du Louvre, though I seem to be going through a series of Concorde run hotels in Paris as the last 3 trips here it is one of them that I have stayed at!
The only reason I am adding that posting to the one I did before (CLICK HERE TO READ) is that the last instance I stayed I had a very so-so sort of room, but that duration I was given a Junior Suite which was really something.
The video and photos show that. There was a lounge/ working room, dressing area, separate toilet, huge bathroom with separate shower and another alcove thing with a table in that I think they did not really know what to do with. A nice treat.
The one thing I did find and had forgotten about these old French buildings. The weather is starting to get warmer, and the room – despite the air-condition which is pretty pathetic – was stuffy and hot. It must be very hot in these rooms in Summer…..

Update February 2010
I was staying again at the Hotel du Louvre, that moment for 3 nights. I was in Room 215 that date, which looked by a square near to the Louvre. The more I stay here, the more I like it as the location is great and the service is good.
The room is fine and large and comfortable.

The other positive is that the staff at the hotel is all efficient, friendly and welcoming. that is true across all departments and levels at the hotel. You are made to feel welcome and looked after.
The downside for me is the style and rooms.
The hotel is in a beautiful traditional Parisian building on a large open intersection. Inside though the decor is very much stuck in the past, and is very dark and old-fashioned for my tastes. I am certain that many would find it rich and impressive – but I see it as overdone and oppressive! A few months back I was in a few days of meetings in their main meeting hall. that was like being in a chocolate box cover with murals and gold everywhere!
The bedrooms are a good size for central Paris but terribly dated. The furniture is old dark wood, with functional beds that are not particularly comfortable. The room I was in was a superior room as they had upgraded me when I checked in (kindly!). It did not feel worth the close to 300 Euros it cost. The TV is old style and had a fairly wide number of channels, though for English speakers there were 2 (CNN and BBC Choice).
One thing I really appreciated was that wireless Net was in the rooms and meeting rooms for free. that is a great and very welcome thing. More hotels should do that.
The breakfast in their Brasserie was a good spread and really good. The staff in there, as with the entire hotel, were really chatty, welcoming and would assemble a point of recognizing you had been in the day before. An easy but nice feeling!
To be honest, while I love the location and the warmth of the staff, I would not rush back as the rooms are just too dated and oppressive.
